Updating your home can seem like a daunting task. There are so many different things that you would like to do to give your home a more up to date and fresh look you most probably don’t know where to start. Also, at first glance, giving your home a complete update will most likely cost you a pretty penny between the costs of renovation and all the decorating. However, you will be surprised to know that there are many updates that you can accomplish on your own, without relying on outside help and all while keeping within in your budget.
Start from the outside of the house and work your way in. A new entry door will give your house a whole new look right from the start. Buying a quality door with an intricate design can be quite expensive. You will save literally thousands of dollars by making your own entry door. All you need is the right equipment. Purchase the correct router bit sets and a large size wood panel and you will be ready to go. With the right equipment you will be able to design a beautiful and professional looking door quite easily.
Next give your home a new coat of paint. A fresh new coat of paint will instantly give your home a complete makeover. Choose vibrant colors to add some life. You can also choose to paint one wall a contrasting color to make a new focal point in any room. This is an inexpensive and easy way to update your entire house.

If you have cabinets or furniture made of real solid wood, a great thing to do would be to strip them and give them a new finish. If your furniture or cabinets are beginning to look antiquated why not give them a new up to date look. You need not go ahead and purchase all new furniture or cabinets, simply scrap them. Then you can choose between re-staining them and re-painting them. With either direction you choose to go it will give a totally new look to your furniture. Then you can go ahead and add new knobs and or handles for a real up to date finish.
Next rearrange your furniture. Placing your furniture on a different angle can do so much. For instance placing your sofa on a diagonal will make your room look much wider. A word of advice, make sure to sketch out on paper exactly what you have in mind. You want to make sure that before you move very heavy items that it will fit properly and work out the way you wanted it

Lastly shop around for some great accessories. There are so many stores out there that have a great selection of decorative accessories at very reasonable prices. You need not spend a lot to get great results. For example, new throw pillows for your older couch will add so much style and fun. A new piece of wall art or a great mirror will add life to dull and boring bare walls. Choose a new lampshade or add new colored crystals to your light fixture. There is so much you can do. Just be careful not to over accessorize and create a cluttered look and feel. Redecorating your home can be affordable and fun when choosing to do a couple of small simple projects on your own.
