Buyers Guide: Understanding the Benefits of a HEPA Air Purifier

HEPA air purifiers are increasing in popularity as more and more people are becoming aware of harmful pollutants that exist inside the home. Many people are only concerned about the pollutants that are found outside caused by vehicle exhaust, manufacturing complexes, and other dangerous sources of harmful chemicals that are prevalent in the atmosphere. The air quality inside buildings and homes should also be given serious consideration. Bad air quality inside the home has been linked to asthma and allergies among other ailments.

HEPA purifiers are capable of removing over 99% of potentially harmful air particles. These harmful particles can have a devastating impact on health conditions such as high blood pressure and even cardiac complications. By employing high efficiency particle air filters or HEPA the purifiers are able to trap most of these particles. These filters are made by arranging fibers randomly but in close proximity in order to better capture harmful particles. HEPA filters capture these particles in three different ways.

Diffusion

With the diffusion method the smallest of the air particles usually measuring about 0.1 micron or smaller hit gaseous molecules. When this happens the air particles become agitated and slow in speed. This causes the particles to bounce through the filter until it hits a fiber and becomes stuck there unable to pass through the filter.

Interception

This is the most common method of trapping harmful air particles. The particles travel along the air flow until they hit the HEPA purifier and become stuck in the fibers.

Impaction

Affecting the larger air particles, the impaction method uses the one particles’ size against them. The air current carrying these particles are able to curve around the filter finding an opening but the particles are not able to avoid the fibers and become stuck.

HEPA air purifiers are commonly used by people with health complications. Although there are plenty of reasons why using a high quality HEPA air purifier are a good idea. HEPA air purifiers are able to remove all forms of harmful particles such as:

• Pet dander
• Pollen
• Tobacco smoke
• Dust mite feces
• Mold
• Dust

While HEPA air purifiers are capable of removing the majority of harmful particles from the air they cannot get them all. For those that suffer severe allergies using this type of purifier can provide some relief but additional care may need to be taken to relieve extreme allergy reactions.

Those that do not suffer allergens or breathing complications will find that using a HEPA air purifier is a great way to improve their quality of life. They find that by using HEPA air purifiers their homes and offices smell better and they have an easier time breathing in general.
